Together by Vivek Murthy

My latest blog post is about a new book by Dr Vivek Murthy that will be released in April.

Together by Vivek Murthy is all about the epidemic of loneliness that is growing in the US and around the world. With all the digital tools, people are not feeling more connected.

Take a read of my thoughts on this book and the work of Dr. Murthy.

Thanks

Manufacturing Keynote Speaker

I have had the honor to speak for many manufacturing companies and associations recently.  These are some of the best audiences. Manufacturing is the backbone of our economy.  The people in these organizations are the ones driving the future.

The message in "The Paradox of Potential" is about how to get individuals and teams to navigate the gap between potential and performance. This is why managers seek this topic.

As a manufacturing keynote speaker, it is very important that I speak to people in the specific industry to get a good feel for what is going on in their companies.

Check out my website for more information.

Also, if you need a Master of Ceremonies / Emcee to bring more energy to your event, I can do the opening keynote speech and stay the whole event as the host.  This is a unique way to engage your audience and drive home the power of the keynote content.

Open Mic Comedy Austin - "The Profile" - WEDNESDAYS

Open Mic Comedy - Austin, TX:  Roughcut Comedy is launching a new open mic in on Wednesday Night's in Austin, Texas.

Hosted by me (Thom Singer).

What?  Yes, I agreed to be the EmCee of the new weekly event.  I like comedy, and this adventure into stand up has had a positive impact on my work and life.

  • Each comic have a five minute set (why 5 minutes? Because I like longer sets, three minutes just goes too fast).

  • Capped at 20 comics (why capped? Because I am old and want to be in bed by midnight).
  • Every week we will feature a "Profiled Comic" who gets a ten minute set (why? because I want to make it more than just an open mic, but give it a "show" feel).
  • List at 8:00.  Show at 8:30.  The list will be reordered.
  • Location - Stereotype. (510 Rio Grande St.  West 6th St Area).

Open Mic Comedy Austin

I began doing comedy a year ago. I am a long way from being "really good", but I have had fun and learned a lot. Plus, the local comedy scene has some amazing people doing comedy.  I want to support them by trying to build a show that is more than a few comics in the audience.

Thus, I am seeking people to make their Wednesday Night Austin fun time out to include ""the Profile" open mic.

We are launching the show on July 10, 2019.  I figure it will take 4-6 weeks to get the comedians and the audience to find the show.  But my goal is to make this a little different and a lot of fun for everyone.

Open mic comedy - Austin has a new face..... "The Profile".  Check it out.

Leadership Keynote Speakers

Having presented nearly 1000 times at live events (and hosted over 470 episodes of my entrepreneur podcast, Cool Things Entrepreneurs Do), I am fascinated by what makes an audience lean into a speech.

Check out my thoughts on a post about Leadership Keynote Speakers on my website.

Business Development Coaching for Lawyers

In the last two weeks I have had several lawyers reach out to me about coaching.  I began my freelance career working one-on-one with attorneys helping them understand how to market and present themselves.  I had moved away from this work, but realized recently I miss it.

I am now offering Business Development Coaching for Lawyers.  If you know anyone who could use this assistance, let them know about me.

Corporate Training

In the past two years much of my work has shifted from only speaking on big stages delivering keynotes, to doing more corporate training.

Corporate training is different from speaking. It is more intimate, and has the potential to set the rest button in someone.

My new program on how to manage potential: "Obtain the Possible" has been approved for Vistage. I am really excited to be able to give to the members of this organization.

Motivational Speakers

For over a decade I have worked in the business of motivational speakers.  I love the industry, and I am so excited everyday that my career has worked out.  It has not been easy, but serving the corporate and association audiences, over 800 of them, has been a real honor.

In 2009 I was laid off from my corporate marketing job. The moment is burned into my memory. It was April 1st, and no, the irony of being laid off on April 1st is not lost to me. I had no job prospects, and we were in the middle of the great recession.  It was the worst economy in 50 years.

So I took the leap. I went full time as a motivational keynote speaker.

I had become captivated with public speaking long before, and had fine tuned my abilities thought being an active member of Toastmasters for ten years. It takes time to learn to speak at the level of a real professional speaker. To be a meaningful inspirational speaker looks easy, but involves hundreds of hours perfecting the skills.

Many people ask me about how to become a motivational speaker. My advice is always the same... go speak.  Someone once asked Stephen King how to become a writer, and he replied "Go write.  Writers write".  I think the same thing is true for motivational speakers.  Speakers speak.

Motivational speakers are a weird group, but I fit right in.  I got involved in the National Speakers Association early in my career, and it was the best decision I ever made.  I have learned a lot for their educational events, but the real gold has been in the strong friendships I have created.

While I always want more business, and actively promote my business to meeting planners, I also go out of my way to refer other speakers.  I care about live events, and I know that sourcing great keynote speakers is not easy. I watch all the speakers I can and praise the great ones in person and online.

If you are seeking a motivational speaker for your company or association event, let's have a conversation.  I am always available to brainstorm ideas.

Have A Great Day

Plenary Speaker

There is often some confusion around the terms Keynote Speaker, Motivational Speaker, Plenary Speaker, etc..

On my website I talk about my view of how they are often used interchangeably. However, it is in technical organizations where they often assign my Conference Catalyst Program and the opening keynote on connecting the "Plenary Speaker" title.

Check out my thoughts. What are your thoughts?

What is a keynote speaker?

New Blog Post on my website blog - What Is A Keynote Speaker?

Have you been reading my new blog on ThomSinger.com?  I am back at blogging on a regular basis talking about the speaking world, and the meetings industry.

I also write about how to manage your potential.  Your career can be better if you discover your path across the gap between potential and performance.

Professional Speakers

Recommended Professional Speakers:

Thom Singer has created a list of professional speakers who the regularly refers.

After speaker at a conference, Thom is 100% of two things:

1. That association or company will hold the same event next year
2. They most likely do not want the same keynote speaker in back to back years.

Thus, he makes sure he always refers other speakers to his clients.

Additionally, when talking to a prospect, they often are seeking more than one professional speaker.

For these reasons he created a list of cool speakers who Thom is confident will "wow" any audience.

Check out the list and if you call one of these speakers, please tell them how you found them.

Have A Great Day
