Writing As A Tool To Get More Business

I had the honor to interview entrepreneur, author, and "That Nametag Guy" - Scott Ginsberg on my BlogTalk Radio podcast.

This is a high energy discussion with a lot of useful ideas and information squeezed into thirty-five minutes.

Some key points:

*Writing is the basis of all wealth
*Be a "thought leader" - not an "expert"

*Own your category

*Writing in social media must be about the reader
*Facebook is the gateway drug to Twitter

Be sure to listen to the whole thing, as Scott has a special offer for anyone who wants even more information. He will provide the "free bonus" to anyone who follows up.

PODCAST - "Re-Inventing Yourself in Business and Beyond" - Interview with Cathy Wohlberg-Craig

My latest edition of the "Some Assembly Required Podcast" on the Blog Talk Radio Network is an inteview with Cathy Wohlberg-Craig of WheresMyDamnAnswer.com.

Cathy has seen the highs and lows in both her professional and personal life. After college she took over the family business and burned herself out as the CEO of a multi-million dollar company.

She had money, prestige, and everything she thought she wanted until she looked in the mirror and realized her ladder was against the wrong wall. "I was FAT (over 200 lbs fat)/ conflicted / lonely / married to the wrong man and trapped in my career until one 24 hour period changed my life and I never looked back." say Wohlberg-Craig.

Cathy is now happily creating her own path. Please listen to our interview as we talk about how others can re-start their life in business and beyond.

Assumptions are the enemy. Do you really know why your customers buy from you? Are you sure they are not buying from your competitors, too? Most business owners think they know the answers to these questions, but Pete Monfre says "What you know, aint necessarily so!"

Getting it wrong can be very expensive. This is why you need to be conducting customer surveys. Not just casual chats with your clients, but structured research that can and will lead you to the information that can bring you more success.

Blog Talk Radio Show - Week #12 - Interview with John McCrea, VP of Marketing for Plaxo

This week we had a great interview with John McCrea, VP of Marketing at Plaxo. We discussed the Open Social Web. John is an industry expert with amazing expertise in the online world. This interview is informative, entertaining, and downright important to listen to for thirty minutes.

"The party is over for the old media, and just beginning for the new online media". The growth of the open social web will just continue to grow as more and more companies avoid being "walled gardens". Portability and transparency are the name of the game! McCrea and Plaxo believe that this is the future.

A Social Network of Only Ten People?...."Yikes" says Scoble

***Note, the below post is also the subject for this weeks "Some Assembly Required Radio Show".

Robert Scoble had a post on the Scobleizer Blog last week asking (actually quoting Evan Williams) what would a social network with only ten members be like? Scoble cringed at the thought. He did admit that a family is a lot like a micro social network, but one could tell that Scoble, who has one of the largest online social networks in cyberspace (He has so many members that his Facebook friends list is full) could not imagine being limited in whom he has in his circle.

However, not everyone can manage GIANT numbers like Scoble, who is successful in finding ways to connect with his thousands of online social contacts. Most people top out at being able to interact with 100 - 200 people and actually have some kind of relationship. It takes time and dedicated "give and take", not just random digital links to have true connections. Scoble will actually respond to those in his social network and read their stuff on blogs and twitter if it trips his interest. He has read my blog and sent me emails and twitter-grams from time to time. While I have never met him, he does practice what he preaches in regards to social networking!

As for a network of only ten? I think that depends on who are the other nine people. Some have great success focusing on very small numbers of committed friends. Think high school….I had a large group of friends, but some had just one close friend. Neither is the “right” answer, as many who had small circles had great times with amazing friends in school. It is not right or wrong….just what works for the individual.

The problem with these online social networking and new media sites is that everyone thinks their way of using the tool is the best way. Many are about quantity of links, others are focused on quality of relationships. Time will morph all of this (things change fast on the internet), but for now it is all too new. If you can have a group of then that meets your personal and professional needs, then that is the right number. Finding one person who can fill your world with phenomenal opportunities is enough to change your life!

Networking is not about the "right" number of people in your network, it is about finding the right people who will make a difference in your life.

Have A Great Day.

Blog Talk Radio Show - Week #8 - John Oberg

This weeks radio interview about executive coaching turned out to be both an excellent discussion with coach John Oberg, and a learning experience for the host of the show.

For the first 14 minutes there were technical difficulties with the Blog Talk Radio system that prevented me from hearing John. Therefore as the host of a live show I had my first experience with having to fill dead air. Oh yes, I just talked about my experiences with executive coaches and talked about how one always must have a "back-up plan" when participating in live events.

Fortunately, John kept calling in from different phones until we got a connection that worked, and we jumped in with both feet to discuss the topic. If you have ever wanted to more about how corporate coaching operates, then take the time to listen to this weeks interview.

Click Here to listen. It should be fun for some to hear me squirm for the first few minutes!

Blog Talk Radio Show - Week #6 - Chris Justice

This week I had a great conversation with Chris Justice, CEO of Sparksight. Chris is an expert in marketing and advertising with a unique understanding of the importance of social media and how this ever changing area is impacting companies.

The world of PR, marketing, advertising and corporate event management are all being turned upside down as a variety of emerging social media outlets. Corporations no longer control the public conversations about their products....customers and other observers are in charge. People are talking and smart companies are paying attention.

Is it scary for a 50 year old CEO or entrepreneur to accept that a bunch of 25-year-old technology enabled bloggers and discussion forum participants are going to have as much or more impact on her company's image as her highly paid PR firm? Yep, scary as hell. But that does not change the reality of a Social Media Web 2.0 world.

Some Assembly Required Radio Show - Week #4

This week I had no guest on the Blog Talk Radio Show, but instead took 15 minutes to discuss the importance of having a blog as part of your strategy to create your personal brand.

I have had some feedback that 30 minutes is too long for listening to a podcast, so I am experimenting with different ideas. I think on weeks with no guest I will stick to 15 minutes, but 30 minutes still is probably best for an interview. I welcome your feedback.
