As everyone in marketing knows, being able to get your ad seen is easy... but having it seen by the right people is a whole other story. Too often companies buy ads without having really thought about who is their target market. They just market to market.... without any forethought about the results they are seeking. They get caugh up in having to take advantage of the opportunity at hand, and throw large sums of money at advertising that never produces results. If questioned about the lackluster performance of their marketing efforts, they call it "branding".
