As such, be bold and give them some suggestions during your meeting - directly or indirectly. That slight nudge may be all they need. Inaction is often the result of not knowing what action to take.Yellow Kayak 2https://www.blogger.com/profile/10810922592591388842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11195787.post-56535056804077121842012-12-05T10:15:05.672-06:002012-12-05T10:15:05.672-06:00This post encompasses so many things about relatio...This post encompasses so many things about relationships. There are moments where I say I am not going to give of my time to anyone anymore because the last 3 wasted it. Then there's the guy who asks me a couple questions over the phone and sends me a restaurant gift card with the note "I took time away from you that you could have been with your family, please take them to dinner with this."

It's not about the gift, it's about the value that the recipient of your free thoughts places on the time and effort.

I just had a guy send me a funny email. He asked to take me to lunch but he doesn't live close to me (I live in Miami, he in New York). He immediately said that while he wants to have lunch, geograhpy would be a problem so to give him the name of my favorite charity and he would make a donation for the time we spent with me giving him advice on a business he's trying to start for lawyers.

People who don't "get it" will never get it. They feel entitled. The problem is that you don't usually realize it until after you've given of your time.

Point is, maybe a good thing to ask is "what's the value to you of picking my brain? My Law Licensehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17487117416844299246noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11195787.post-73442709471675555402012-12-03T08:52:51.946-06:002012-12-03T08:52:51.946-06:00Had a friend and client who I helped with a lot of...Had a friend and client who I helped with a lot of free advice. If the man is unwilling to drive a bit to "pick a brain" then he is probably unwilling to do a good job for a new employer.
